Snowed in in Geneva (March 2018): TPG and city on halt !

Snow event panic this Thursday in Geneva. It has snowed  much more than expected. As a result, traffic is halted, we cannot count the number of cars abandonned in the middle of the streets, people are desperately waiting for public transport that will not come, in most cases. For most foreigners, especially for North Americans, this looks kind of insane. Flashback on one of the most tumultuous day of Geneva/ at least we got some action !

TPG Geneva Public transportation completely blocked by the snow !

This morning, most buses and tramways would not ride. While it may be understandable for buses, it is weird that the traffic of tramways would be disturbed to that extent. That begs the question of why, having seen the weather forecast, weren't the TPG users informed early in the morning ? the bus / tramways schedules boards kept on announcing regular times. Well, that article says they did the maximum, but as far as I am concerned I haven't seen a single snos plow vehicule until 9pm in the Gare Cornavin area where I live. I have to say I was quite surprised.

Snow in Geneva : vehicule meltdown - cars riding on the snow

That was most hilarious: in the International Organizations, seeing all these big diplomatic license plate car strugglling with the snow. I even saw a 4*4 abandonned at the crossroad between Avenue Appia and Avenue de la Paix ;-)
The best part is about me having to push a car with other people to help it get out a parking space !
I heard somebody rode their snowboard in a street, always better the look at the half full glass !

What did the city of Geneva do to help ?

According to the City of Geneva rep, a special plan had been implemented since 2.15 am this Thursday. Priority was given to large circulation axes with 9 snow plows but unfortunately, around the city center, the smaller vehicules (around 50) coudn't reach every street - I asked around me and nodoby saw them. The rep was a bit optimistic...
