Ski lessons around Geneva : cheapest options and resorts

Newcomers to Geneva sometimes do not even consider taking ski lessons for financial reasons. Taking ski lessons is not always expensive ...not necessarily. Let me tell you where you can take the cheapest ski lessons by professionals.

There are a couple of things people can do to reduce the cost of ski lessons. So I will tell how you can learn how to ski or have your children taught ski or snowboard without going bankrupt.
The solutions to benefit from ski lessons at reasonable price include:
  • taking the ski classes provided by associations and
  • signing up for a membership of international organizations skiclubs
  • taking the ski lessons in French ski resorts.

Option #1 : cheaper ski classes with non profit organizations

Associations like the swiss non profit orgnization "Amis Montagnards" offer 5 ski lessons and snowboard for 160 CHF for members and 200 CHF for non members.
You may take your kid from age 5 (prices start as low as 100 CHF for 5 classes)
The ski instructors are certified and the ski classes take place at fixed dates between January and mid-February each year. You are to reach the ski resort by your own means, but can probably get a lift if needed.
The organization is run by passionate lovers of mountain activities: ski, hikes, etc...This is the cheapest options I know of for low price ski classes, but I'd be happy to know if you can beat me, share in the comments...

Option #2 : skiclubs affiliated with international organizations offer lessons at a reduced price

Ski clubs like the CERN Skiclub proposes ski activities from downhill ski, cross country to ski touring, etc...all that skiing at affordable prices

Option #3 : taking ski lessons in French smaller ski resorts at reasonable costs

Chamonix, Verbier, Zermatt, Tignes, Avoriaz, Courmayeur...the biggest ski stations of the place are a magnet for most people coming from afar. However, there are dozens of smaller ski resorts better suited for beginners where you may book a ski instructor at very reasonable cost. In these places, you also benefit from a cheaper ski pass, less crowded ski slopes, you can eat at restaurants for less money, and sometimes a nicer atmosphere. These places are called: les Jouvencelles, les Rousses, Mijoux, le Grand Bornand, Thollon...

At first, you want to focus on your ski training and there are affordable ways to do it.

Personally, what I like to do is to go with a friend that has the same ski level, and book an instructor for the day in these smaller ski resorts. We reduced the cost while still benefiting from a tailor made lesson. It is generally a very relaxing experience.
And you, what do you do ? How do you save on ski ?
