Geneva shopping options: shop during sales in Lyon !
When I have enough of Geneva and I want to renew pieces of clothes, I go to Lyon for a shopping spree! Let me tell you how you can easily get to Lyon and shop for less, when you live in Switzerland.
The easiest, for more choice and if you target something between high and low end, the Part-Dieu shopping center might be the answer for you.
Part-Dieu has more than 150 shops, 20+ restaurants, 1 movie theater and is open on Sundays during the sales period.
Women fashion, Men fashion, sportswear and equipment, skincare, makeup, homeware, supermarket, dry cleaning services, smoke shop and locksmith service...you name it, they have it for you. I should also mention there is a department store in the mall, called Galerie Lafayette, for folks more interested in high end fashion.
But you do have other options (I have combined multiple):
Shopping malls in Lyon: Part-Dieu and Confluences

How to get to Shopping Center "centre commercial" Lyon Part-Dieu from Geneva
The great thing, when coming from Geneva, is that this shopping mall is located right off the train station, with direct route from Geneva Cornavin train station. One day I paid 28€ with SNCFBut you do have other options (I have combined multiple):
- Carpooling to Lyon, using the Blablacar service: will cost you 11-14 €.
- Use the bus service with Ouibus, there is a departure on Saturdays around 10 am from Place Dorcière in Geneva. Note that the bus will stop at Lyon-Perrache station; from there you may take the underground to reach Part-Dieu (ticket for a single ride is 1.4€ and is valid 1 hour).
- Use your own car, you will pay about a 16€ toll fee if you take the highway after the Bardonnex border. There is a huge car park at the shopping center but you'll have to pay for it as well. Not sure using your car is the most cost effective solution.
Confluences shopping mall in Lyon
The other big mall is Confluence. As hinted by the name, the place is located where the Rhone and the Saone river join, 15 minutes walk from the Lyon-Perrache underground station. If you commuted by bus, it might make sense to visit Confluence instead of Part-Dieu. It is interesting to note the use of the word "Confluence", as opposed to the "Jonction" word used in Switzerland to designate where the Rhone and the Arve meet in Geneva.
The Confluence centre commercial is brand new: like Part-Dieu, it has an Apple store, but only there will you be to buy your favorite products in a Bose shop, a Desigual boutique, a Geox shoes shop.
With all that choice, you can easily spend the day in Lyon, and maybe wander along the Rhone river banks, eat in one of the great restaurants like l'Argot (steak-house), and end the day watching a movie before heading back to Geneva.
Prices for clothing in Lyon during sales
I would recommend to travel to Lyon at the sales period. This is where you can really get a good return on your time and money investment - after all, going to Lyon will almost eat up the whole day. Many boutiques will propose 20% to 70% discounts off the regular prices. In other shops where the stock needs to go, you may find that BOGOF (Buy One Get One Free) special offers. If you need to renew part of your clothes, that is the opportunity to seize. You'll be able to take a sweet break in your shopping spree: have a waffle in Waffle Factory, refresh with an ice-cream from Haagen Dazs, or give in to the croissant and viennoiserie temptation at the Paul bakery...
