Free public transport in Geneva –yes it IS possible !

Public transportation for (almost) free in Geneva seems like an oxymoron…Is it possible to find free transportation in one of the most expensive cities in the world ! Yes, I will entertain you today of several options to reduce your transportation costs.

Free bicycle rental with GeneveRoule

Geneve Roule is a non-profit organization offering free rental of regular and electric bikes in Geneva, Meyrin, Carouge, Nations, Terrassière (the bikes may be rented for free at these various places).
Upon presentation of an ID and a deposit of 20 chf (100 chf for an electric bike), you can rent a bike and use if for up to 4 hours. There are 9 sites spread across the canton of Geneva where you can get a bike. That mostly applies to short round trips. An issue with the bike ? you can call the flying mechanic to come to you and help; this is as far as these guys go to help!

Free public transport ticket for visitors to Geneva

In addition to that, people not staying at hotels are still entitled to a free ticket upon arrival by plane. Close to the exit, Arrivals level, there is a Unireso machine that distributes a ticket valid for 80 minutes, allowing you to avail of buses, train, tramways to reach you final destination.
Want more information on that: check our listing of Geneva useful websites.
And I am not finished...

An individual staying at a business residence (hotel, youth hostel) is entitled to a free Geneva transport card for the length of their stay. You’ll get it at the reception of your hotel. Did you know that ?
